Frequently asked questions

Who do you work with?

We work with high-net-worth families, business owners, and pre-liquidity clients — many of them based in the Pacific Northwest, with clients nationwide. Most engagements start with $1M+ in investable assets or an upcoming liquidity event.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. Advisory services are offered through Compass Financial Management, an SEC-Registered Investment Advisory, and we are held to a fiduciary standard at all times.

How do you charge?

We are fee-only — typically a percentage of assets under management. We do not earn commissions and do not sell proprietary products. Specific fee schedules are detailed in our ADV and discussed in our first meeting.

Do I have to live in Seattle?

No. We're rooted in Seattle but serve clients nationwide. Most meetings happen via secure video, with annual in-person reviews when appropriate.

Do you do tax preparation?

We focus on tax planning — the strategic, multi-year work that drives long-term after-tax wealth. We coordinate closely with your CPA, or can recommend one if you don't have one in place.

What's a Deferred Sales Trust?

A Deferred Sales Trust (DST) is an installment-sale structure under IRC §453 that can defer capital-gains tax on the sale of a business or appreciated asset. See our dedicated business-brokers page for detail.
